Learn more →When the business stands still
For companies and public bodies it is rarely about a single device but about the working day: the merchandise system that will not start, the case file system a whole department depends on. There are separate arrangements for that – pick-up, invoice without advance payment, a data processing agreement under Art. 28 GDPR and, if needed, a prioritised analysis.
Your route to recovered data
You take no risk: costs only arise once you have accepted a specific quote.
Describe the case
By phone or through the form. We will tell you straight away whether the device has to stay switched off.
Hand over and analysis
By post, in person or by pick-up. The medium is examined and, where possible, imaged read-only.
Quote with file list
A binding fixed price and an overview of the data found. If you decline, nothing but the return is charged.
Return and deletion
The recovered data comes back on a medium. After your release, image and working copy are deleted.
Why the first step decides everything
Most of the damage we see was not caused by the failure itself but by what happened in the hours after it. A drive with a damaged head that is restarted a dozen times grinds away the surface that was still readable. A RAID that is rebuilt onto a weak member overwrites the very data that was to be saved.
So the most useful advice is unspectacular: switch it off, leave it off, and ask before you try. A device that is not running does not get worse. One that keeps trying to heal itself does.

Independent of the manufacturer
We work with storage media from all common manufacturers – regardless of brand, year of manufacture or interface.
All brand and product names are the property of their respective owners. They are mentioned solely to describe which storage media we work on. There is no partnership with, and no authorisation by, the manufacturers named.
Frequently asked questions
What should I do when files suddenly disappear?
Switch the device off and write nothing more to the medium. With mechanical damage in particular, the next start-up attempt decides whether recovery is still possible. Call us before you try anything.
What does the initial assessment cost?
Nothing. We examine the medium, tell you what is possible and quote a binding fixed price. Only then do you decide whether we should work on it.
How long does a recovery take?
Straightforward cases are done in one to three working days. Mechanical damage and RAID reconstructions take longer, usually five to ten working days. If your business is at a standstill, we agree on priority handling.
What happens if nothing can be recovered?
Then you pay nothing for the recovery. Only the agreed amount for returning the medium remains.
Who is behind Daten-Ambulanz?
Daten-Ambulanz is the brand under which Schirmer GmbH, based in Weyerbusch in the Westerwald region, offers data recovery. Full company details are in the imprint (German).
Lost data? Every further start-up attempt can do harm.
