Not sure what you are dealing with?
That is entirely normal and not necessary for an enquiry. Just describe what happened: did the device fall, does it make noises, is it no longer detected, or are files simply missing? That is usually enough to tell which direction the case takes.
What matters more is what you should not do: never run recovery software over a drive that makes unusual noises, and write nothing to the affected medium.
